What is ScarpHouse
ScrapHouse was created by a 21-year-old college student, Alyvia Schoener who started a small in-house alteration service through a boutique before expanding into an upcyle business.
“the scraps kept piling up so I decided to put them to use rather than just throwing them out”
She realized the demand for alterations and that repairing clothes is a great way to prevent your favorite shirt from becoming a waste. Learning to sew at a young age gave her the skills to create unique pieces for others. She now has a goal of making a larger environmental impact by promoting upcycling through community events and collaborating with other local artists.
Working with local farmers markets, selling in local retail stores, and now online. Let’s make an impact!
Sustainability
ScrapHouse is 100% locally sourced, meaning all fabrics and materials used were locally donated or bought. This helps prevent new clothing waste from accumulating in Bozeman, MT by essentially being a recycling system. You donate your jeans directly to ScrapHouse and we flip them using no new materials and producing no new waste. Helping extend the life cycle of garments while decreasing the overall environmental footprint of clothing, including reduced energy consumption and water usage
Did you know?
The fashion industry produces about 10 percent of all carbon emissions and 92 million tons of textile waste each year.
Cotton is one of the most commonly used natural fibers and it takes between 7,000–29,000 liters of water to produce just barely over 2 lb.
3. Synthetic fibers, such as polyester, take hundreds of years to decompose, releasing methane during degradation.
4. Less than 1% of discarded textiles are recycled and upcycled
